Rotary Club invites businesses to donate items for annual auction

It’s auction season for the Hopkinsville Rotary Club and Rotarians Kelly Gates and Austin Calvert appeared on WHOP to share how the community can support the auction and how the funds will benefit local students.

The 74th annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction is set for April 22 through April 27 with the theme of “Purposeful Pathways.” Gates, who is this year’s auction chair, says the theme highlights that Rotary scholarships can help graduating students pursue a multitude of career paths.

As the auction approaches, Gates says they are still looking for more items to auction off and businesses that donate an item to the auction will receive free advertising.

Funds raised in the auction will go toward academic scholarships for local students. Calvert shared that his high school graduating class were among the first students to be able to apply for Rotary scholarships, and he was awarded a scholarship which helped him pursue higher education.

Along with scholarships, Gates says the funds raised by the auction will also go toward their Rotary Impact program. The impact program supports students through career pathways starting in high school through their post graduation education with the goal of having them return to the community to work after their studies.

There are teaching and agriculture pathways, and Gates spotlighted their healthcare program which is the most recent pathway announced earlier in March.
