Proffitt enters guilty plea in Petsch Lane shooting case

A resolution has been reached in the shooting case against Jeffrey Proffitt, who entered a guilt plea to his role in a shooting that happened on Petsch Lane last year.

Proffitt pled guilty to the amended charges of fourth-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, as detailed by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Gilbert, who says it comes with a recommended five years in prison.

Proffitt was originally charged with first-degree assault for shooting a female victim in the leg, resulting in injuries that sent her to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

Gilbert says the Commonwealth is opposed to probation of any type and Judge John Atkins accepted his plea of guilt.

Final sentencing was set for May 8.

Proffitt and the victim had been in an argument when he retrieved a handgun and brandished it during the argument—the gun went off, striking the victim.
