Mental health evaluation in the works for East 18th Street murder suspect

Efforts to have a mental health evaluation conducted on murder suspect Earl Guillemet continue with proceeding continued in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Defense attorney Ramon McGee informed the court that he has spoken with the doctor from the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Complex who is set to perform the evaluation and is hopeful it will be conducted soon, though it had not as of court time that morning.

There’s hope that some progress at least is underway, and Judge John Atkins set another hearing out to April 24 with the hope they can set something sooner if the evaluation is completed.

Guillemet is accused of fatally shooting Hernandez May 3 in the 300 block of East 18th Street. Witnesses and security camera footage from the area identified a silver Chevy truck as leaving the scene after the shooting and a Black male with gray facial hair was seen walking towards the victim’s residence just moments before the shots fired call.

Police would also eventually recover the gun Guillemet allegedly used to kill Hernandez and he was arrested on charges of murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
