We’re entering the home stretch for legislators in the Kentucky General Assembly, and work begins to hammer out what a final version of the state budget will look like.
The Senate has put forth their version of the budget and it now heads to Conference Committee, where members from both the Senate and the House will meet to debate and come to a compromise on a two-year spending plan.
Representative Walker Thomas says there was plenty to like about the Senate version when paired with their House budget, and he has hopes that an agreement will be reached that funds a little something for everyone.
Representative Myron Dossett says the process has a bit of a hiccup this time around, as it was determined that some of the numbers they were provided were incorrect, so they’ll have to fix that before anything can be passed.
Things will undoubtedly be very busy as the last days of the General Assembly get underway this week, with everything that must pass having until April 15 to get done—though the Assembly will try and make sure a budget is passed before the Veto Recess, to avoid any lasting vetoes from the governor.
