Hopkinsville police have arrested and charged a Hopkinsville man with second-degree criminal child abuse following an investigation into a child abuse case.
According to a news release, while officers were investigating a report of child abuse, 33-year-old James Pearson allegedly admitted that while he was watching a five-year-old girl, he became upset due to the child wetting the bed and as a punishment, struck her with a child’s belt repeatedly.
The child reportedly sustained deep bruises and abrasions across her body, including her right cheek and temple on her face, her arms, neck and her back and legs.
Pearson was cooperative in the investigation and was arrested and charged with second-degree child abuse against a child under the age of 12.
