A new organization is taking over the Hopkinsville Soap Box Derby, and the race itself is set to take place May 3 and May 4.
According to a news release, the Bluegrass Youth Racing Foundation will take lead of the 18th annual Hopkinsville Soap Box Derby and this year, things are kicking off on March 23 with a Fun Day at Ruff Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Potential racers can climb into a soap box derby car and head down the track to get a feel for the experience and what it’s like to pilot a derby car.
The Super Kids Race will take place Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. following Soap Box Derby practice runs and a cookout for racers and their families. Then, the action continues Saturday morning, with the community invited to attend and cheer on the racers as they compete to see who will race at the 86th Annual International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.
There are plenty of cars on hand for racers, and there will be several build clinics hosted leading up to Derby Day to customize the cars.
