The Christian County Clerk’s Office and the Kentucky County Clerks Association is giving an update on the state’s new vehicle registration system.
According to a news release, county clerks are processing an increasing number of transactions each day as clerks learn the new KAVIS system, but there are still significant delays and problematic transactions. Leadership has expressed their frustrations and concerns to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and members of the KAVIS team are reportedly working seven days a week to correct the programming errors that have affected the system and by extension, the citizens of Kentucky.
County Clerks are urging citizens to come to the office prepared, including bringing their driver’s license, the renewal notice along with the prior year’s registration, proof of insurance, and be prepared to wait longer than normal.
Renewals can also be made online on the KYTC’s website drive.ky.gov
March is reportedly the busiest month of the year for the motor vehicle department statewide, with currently 963,462 renewal notices mailed to counties with a March 2024 expiration date.
