Springfield woman indicted for murder in death of Cheatham Co. child

A Springfield, Tennessee woman is facing a charge of murder following investigation into the death of a child in July of 2023.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, an investigation was conducted into the death of five-year-old Turner Simpkins was found deceased at his residence on Poplar Ridge Road in Cheatham County in July of last year. It was determined he died due to blunt force trauma and his death was ruled as a homicide. 

Investigated reportedly revealed that the girlfriend of the victim’s father, Shannon Elliot, was the individual responsible.

On March 4, a Cheatham County Grand Jury return an indictment charging the 26-year-old Elliot with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated child abuse. She was arrested and lodged in the Cheatham County Jail on a $1 million bond.
