Sheriff’s Department cautions community on phone scams

Christian County Sheriff, Tyler DeArmond shared that his office has been made aware of a phone scam occurring where scammers are pretending to be law enforcement threatening residents with jail time.

According to a post to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook, DeArmond says they have received reports of phone scammers posing as members of the Sheriff’s Office and accusing residents of missing jury duty and requesting a form of payment or personal information to avoid being served an arrest warrant.

DeArmond says his office does not call anyone threatening jail time or demanding any type of payment or personal information for missing jury duty or any active warrants.

DeArmond advises the community that scammers want two things, money or personal information. Those who receive any phone that might be a suspected scam can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 270-887-4141 or 270-890-1300.
