An Illinois woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 in Christian County Friday afternoon.
According to the report from the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle operated by 85-year-old Roland Heuton of Illinois was heading south on the Pennyrile Parkway and entered the I-24 on-ramp. That’s when he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel about half-way down the ramp.
The vehicle left the roadway and into the median for approximately 5o-to-100 yards before striking a drainage ditch.
A passenger in the vehicle, 84-year-old Ardith Heuton, was unresponsive upon the arrival of EMS and was later pronounced deceased.
Roland Heuton was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for complaints of pain to multiple areas of his body.
