Officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department arrested Gabriel Brewington of Hopkinsville on Sunday after he allegedly discharged a firearm within city limits.
According to a report from police, officers responded to a shots fired incident at a residence on Gale Lane which neighbors Brewington’s own residence. At his neighbor’s residence, Brewington was allegedly in possession of a firearm that he had stolen on Saturday from a residence on Oak Street.
According to Brewington’s neighbor, Brewington was in their home when he fired the gun. The bullet reportedly traveled through the neighbor’s front door and across the street into another residence.
The resident across the street reportedly told officers that the bullet went through a window and into their son’s bedroom. After he fired the gun Brewington allegedly injured himself and exited his neighbor’s residence leaving the gun.
When asked by police, Brewington said he was trying to work the gun and lock the slide to the rear when it went off. After then incident, Brewington was taken into custody and it was later found that the gun was reportedly stolen.
Brewington is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and theft by unlawful taking of a firearm.
