HHS Swimmer Grace Cansler wins Player of the Week

This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Grace Cansler.

Grace is a sophomore at Hopkinsville High school and a member of the swimming team.

When it comes to her beginnings in competitive swim, it may surprise some that she started so early in her childhood.

As far as her reason for starting swimming, Cansler acknowledged the fact that she has always been one to want to try new things.

When asked why she has continued to compete in swim for about a decade now, Cansler credited her support system as a weighing motivator.

Now, after years of practice and learning different strokes, Grace says that the breaststroke is her specialty. She also explained how that is what she has been working on improving the most to have a good postseason.

With her aspirations of having a good showing at regionals, Cansler reflected on last year’s events and how it lit a fire under her.

Along with swimming, Cansler is also a member of the Lady Tiger soccer and track teams.

With being a three-sport athlete and a full-time student, challenges are evident, but Grace explained how she balances it all while still having fun.

Grace has been swimming since she was very young for country club team, then started swimming year round, and now high school. She is very competitive. Hopefully she will swim well at the regional level and advance to the semi state and state level
