As forecasts project well below freezing temperatures starting this weekend, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army announced that they will be providing services and resources to those in need to ensure their safety during the harsh weather.
The Salvation Army’s shelter will be operating at normal hours from 4 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The local nonprofit has also prepared their Emergency Weather Shelter designated for when the temperature dips below 20 degrees and serves to help those seeking refuge from the cold. The weather shelter is located at 313East 7th Street and will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting on Friday.
The Salvation Army will also have areas designated as warming centers set to provide relief from the cold. On Saturday, the nonprofit’s soup kitchen dining room will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Sunday their worship center will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Tuesday their admin office lobby will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cold weather items will also be available to those in need on a first come, first serve basis on Monday through Friday at the admin office located at 304 East 7th Street. Hats, gloves and socks will be available as long as supplies last.
