Attorneys vacate trial date for Princess Theater shooting suspects

Jaquavion Spencer, Zamarius Humphries and Deovion Day who are charged in connection to the Princess Theater shooting appeared in Christian Circuit Court on Wednesday where their set trial date has been vacated.

The shooting occurred in November of 2021 outside of Princess Theater where Spencer and Humphries both allegedly pulled guns on one another and Humphries was shot in the neck. Day then allegedly attempted to shoot Spencer but fatally struck Aniyah Collins and injured Gteria Acree.

The trio was originally set to go to trial next Monday, however Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy says they are not ready for trial as she and the defense attorneys involved in the case are working to make sure they all have the same discovery.

Along with the discovery transfers, Leamy says she is planning to motion to drop the complicity to murder charges both Spencer and Humpries face. Once everyone has copies of all of the relevant case information, Leamy says she would like to discuss plea deals and resolutions with the defense attorneys.

Humphries’ and Spencer’s defense attorney, Sands Chewning and Day’s defense attorney Daniel Whitely agreed to the vacate the trial. Chewning says Leamy had just recently provided the defense with color video relevant to the case and is working to find witness statements.

Spencer, Humphries and Day are set to reappear in court for a pretrial conference on January 31.
