Woodlands Nature Station in LBL bids farewell to Red Wolf cubs heading to different facilities

The Woodlands Nature Station in Land Between the Lakes has bid farewell to the Red Wolves that were born there 18-months ago, as the wolves head to their own facilities to potentially start their own packs.

According to the Nature Station, the red wolf pups known as Trace, Piney, Ginger and Sugar were born in April of 2022 to wolf pair Ember and Jasper at the Nature Station, and have spent the first 18-months of the lives being cared for and loved at the facility. At the end of the December however, it was time to say goodbye, with all four heading off to different facilities across the U.S.

Ginger went to the Wolf Conservation Center in Salem, New York, Sugar traveled to Point Defiance Zoon and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington and brothers Trace and Piney went to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Florida.

Officials with the Nature Station say, “Transferring our Red Wolf pups has been emotional for Woodlands Nature Station staff, volunteers, and visitors. We all care for them deeply and have loved watching them grow up here. Now that Trace, Piney, Ginger, and Sugar have moved, we are excited to track their progress and are hopeful that they will soon be able to have pups of their own, continuing the conservation of this incredible species.”

The mother of the wolves, Ember, remains at the Nature Station, where it is likely another red wolf will be brought to be her companion, following the passing of mate Jasper earlier in 2023.
