Hopkinsville mayor talks plans, priorities for upcoming year

As we look towards the new year, the City of Hopkinsville is making some changes and looking to address issues that have lingered for the city.

Speaking with WHOP, Mayor J.R. Knight says they’ll remain focused on addressing the ongoing struggle with homelessness happening in the city, with more planning meetings and conversations on the topic set to take place.

Starting January 1, the Hopkinsville Fire Department is taking over code enforcement in the city, and Mayor Knight says they want to continue the momentum of cleaning up Hopkinsville, from the streets to the buildings.

Work continues on restoring to the iconic clock tower downtown, along with other local buildings, and he says they hope to get started on those efforts soon.

Demolition is set to happen on the Walnut Street Stadium, and the City of Hopkinsville is currently accepting bids for demolition on other possible structures, with no specifics yet on what those may be.
