Todd Fiscal Court hears of tornado recovery, approves reapportionment measure

Todd Fiscal Court got an update on tornado recovery efforts in the county at Friday’s meeting and approved a reapportionment measure on first-reading.

Todd County sustained damage, particularly in the Trenton and Allensville areas, when an EF-2 tornado moved through the area on December 9, and Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says efforts continue in clean-up and recovery. He says they’re working on a way for people to be able to donate money to the cause, as they’ve received numerous requests for that.

He says they’re also looking into more avenues on getting the word out in the event of severe weather—Todd County has five tornado sirens and could use more, says Smith, and they’ll be looking to further communication options.

Smith says they’ve given out hundreds of weather radios recently, and they’ll be looking into getting even more out in the community when possible.

Magistrates approved an ordinance for reapportionment, bringing the county districts inline with population census data—County Attorney Jeff Traughber says this what they’ve approved previously, just set in language.

A special-called meeting will be held on December 27 to approve that a second-reading. In other action, magistrates approved setting the speed limit on Williams Hill Road at 25 miles per hour.
