Citizens file for City Council, House of Representatives candidacy

With 2024 elections around the corner, throughout the week three Hopkinsville City Council incumbents and a newcomer as well as a local state representative incumbent have filed for candidacy.

 Republican City Council incumbents, Natasha Francis of Ward One, Matthew Handy of Ward 12 and Jason Bell of Ward 11 have filed to retain their seat on the council.

Francis has served on the council since 2021 and also holds positions on the Future Funding Review Committee, Board of Appeals and the Western Hills Municipal Golf Course Board.

Handy has served on the council since the beginning of 2023 and also holds positions on the Pennyroyal Area Museum Board of Directors, Human Rights Commission and the Fire Department Facility Feasibility Study Committee.

Bell has served on the council since 2019 and also holds positions on the Inner-City Advisory Committee, Future Funding Review Committee, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority and the Little River Water Quality Consortium.

Newcomer Shannon Trogden has filed for election as a Republican for the Council’s Ward Five seat. Council member Amy Craig currently occupies the Ward Five seat and has also filed for reelection.

Looking toward state political offices, Jason Petrie who represents District 16 which covers parts of Christian, Todd and Logan Counties has filed to retain his position in the House of Representatives. Petrie has been a state representative since 2017.
