EDC Director talks Rural King, Metalsa, future growth

The Executive Director of the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council talked future growth, incoming businesses and recovery efforts at Metalsa on the Early Bird Show Friday.

Carter Hendricks says Metalsa seems to have mostly recovered from the fire that has reduced their foot print after a building was severely damaged in the blaze in November. He says almost all employees impacted by the fire are still employed there, and Metalsa is working on getting that building back in operation.

Hendricks says people have probably also seen work being done at the old Bradford Square Mall, and it has been confirmed to him that Rural King fully intends to be operational on the JC Penney side of the building by the end of 2024.

Looking to the future, Hendricks says he’s feeling good about where the region is heading from here, with SK Ecoplant moving into the spec building and industries already interested in the spec building in Trigg County.

He says this region is seeing big investments not just privately, but also in public infrastructure such as improvements to roads, such as on the Pennyrile Parkway and hopefully KY 115.
