Community celebrates holidays at tree lighting ceremony

Members of the community came together to sing holiday carols and watch the Christmas tree in Downtown Hopkinsville be illuminated for the first time this holiday season on Friday evening.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Toby Hudson thanked everyone for coming and welcomed Jack Shaheen who was selected to flip the big switch and light the tree.

Along with Hudson, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. welcomed all of the attendees and wished them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, before the crowd started to sing holiday carols.

After a few carols, Hudson moved the audience’s attention toward the tree which sat unlit and along with the audience, counted down the switch flipping that would illuminate the tree.

The Christmas tree can be seen illuminated in Founder’s Square.
