A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges for drug trafficking following a pursuit in Hopkinsville Thursday evening.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, officers witnessed a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Demario Sanders traveling visibly fast on East Fourth Street and conducted a traffic stop. An odor of marijuana was allegedly emanating from the vehicle and a search of vehicle revealed synthetic marijuana, methamphetamine and a handgun.
That’s when Sanders reportedly fled on foot and was shortly taken into custody. He allegedly tossed several baggies of marijuana during the pursuit, which were located by officers.
Sanders was taken to the Christian County Jail, where it was reportedly determined that he had hidden a baggie of drugs in his mouth, which was retrieved and contained a mixture of heroine and fentanyl.
He was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in synthetic drugs, trafficking in meth, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree promoting contraband.
Sanders is also facing charges in relation to an investigation stemming from drugs located in a residence on Howell Street from earlier in November.
