CASA shares holiday plans, community involvement needs

With the holidays fast approaching members from the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Christian County are inviting the community to help them spread holiday cheer and shared their need for more volunteers and board members.

CASA is national association that serves to support children going through the court system who may have experienced abuse or neglect and do not have a permanent home. From the local organization, Program Assistant Mary McClearen and board member Sharon Blaine appeared on WHOP to share CASA’s mission.

For the holidays, McClearen is inviting the community to help them deck the halls of CASA with a toy drive and a holiday decoration drive.

CASA is accepting donations through December 18 and asking for the community to drop off toys for children between the ages of 2 and 17 as well as new or gently used holiday decorations such as lights, wreaths, garlands and ornaments. Donations can be dropped off at their office at 515 Weber St.

Along with donations, McClearen says the organization has nine families that they are working to sponsor through the holidays. McClearn says those who are interested in sponsoring a family can contact their Executive Director Kira Bailey at 270-962-7088.

Beyond their holiday needs, Blaine shared that the organization is looking for more community involvement needing volunteers and board members.
