Madisonville Police arrest man on assault, strangulation charges

Sherman Hopson was arrested by officers from the Madisonville Police Department on Saturday after he reportedly assaulted a woman before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police responded to the Cross Creek Apartments where they spoke with the alleged victim of the assault. The victim reported that Hopson had been drinking alcohol when a verbal dispute between the pair began. The victim said the dispute turned physical when Hopson reportedly struck her with his fist multiple times before wrapping his hands around her throat and choking her.

Officers observed marks on the victim’s face and neck that supports her story. The victim told officers that after Hopson assaulted her, he fled the scene on foot. Searching the apartment complex, officers found Hopson in a dumpster in the neighborhood unable to stand without support and smelling of alcohol.

Officers placed Hopson in the backseat of the police cruiser where he began to yell and attempted kicking out the back window.

Hopson was charged with fourth degree dating violence assault, second degree strangulation, second degree disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
