Shop Small Saturday sees good turnout, support locally

After plenty of shopping took place on Black Friday, a good amount of people took to downtown Hopkinsville and all across Christian County for Shop Small Saturday.

Shop Small Saturday is all about supporting those local, small businesses that call the community home, and there were activities and sales taking place for the bulk of the day, from giveaways at J. Schrecker Jewelry, an Underground Art Show, deals up and down Sixth Street and vendor fairs at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company, there were plenty of ways to support small businesses.

Laura Faulkner with Community Development Services says while shopping online with big corporations is convenient and unavoidable, its good to remember to support those local business, as it not only supports those owners, but also the community as a whole.

She says it was a great turnout Saturday, and its good to see people getting into the spirit of giving.

New this year, multiple local businesses will be participating in the “trail of trees” and Faulkner says its a chance to create memories while shopping this holiday season.

December itself is Shop Small Month, and people are encouraged to not let online shopping and big retailers take up all of your Christmas buying this year.
