Turkey Trot brings huge crowd downtown for Thanksgiving tradition

In what has grown to be a big tradition in Hopkinsville, around 1,500 people took to downtown for the 22nd annual Turkey Trot.

Runners, walkers, joggers, people on bicycles, people with their four-footed companions, folks in costume and everything in between took off from the starting line near Founders Square, making a 3-mile loop back to end at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.

Rachel Sanders with the Parks and Recreation Department says they were thrilled with the turnout, and it couldn’t have been a prettier day for the many families that call this event a Thanksgiving tradition.

She says the Turkey Trot was free to participate in, but those interested could buy an event shirt, with proceeds from those sales going towards improvements of the Greenway System.

The Turkey Trot is not a competitive race—there’s nothing timed—but some folks took the chance to show their stuff, being led by Hopkinsville police, and especially Bolo, the Paw-trol dog.
