For the second straight week, the Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is not just an individual but a a whole group of students.
After falling short just one spot away from the KHSAA state tournament, the Hopkinsville High School cheerleading squad is headed to Disney World.
After competing in a United Cheer Association regional tournament this past weekend to qualify for nationals in Orlando for the first time in school history.
As far as competitions go, the Lady Tigers compete in what is called Game Day Cheer which is quite similar to what fans will see from the cheerleaders at Tiger basketball games this season. Head coach Kaleigh Stout explained the similarities.
When it comes to cheerleading, communication and being on the same page are necessities. Coach Stout explained the dangers of cheerleading and how important communication is.
Leadership is also one of the those necessities for a team, but Stout explained despite having Emma Hale Lykins and Dia Creamer as team captains, the squad works very well together because there are multiple leaders on the floor during practices and events.
As far as the UCA Nationals it will be a business trip for the Lady Tigers, but Stout says they will still get some time to enjoy themselves.
With a big trip like this, fundraising will be an essential for the HHS Cheer Squad and they plan to start around January but donations at any time will be appreciated.
