A familiar name has thrown his hat in the ring to fill the vacant Court of Appeals Division 2 seat in Western Kentucky, as Family Court Judge Jason Fleming has announced he will run in that race.
The seat came up for grabs when Judge Donna Dixon announced her retirement, and Judge Fleming—who has served as family court judge since 2006 and before that, as an assistant Christian County Attorney—says it seemed like the next step in his drive to serve the people of Christian County and western Kentucky.
He feels he has the experience needed to serve in this post well, including many recognitions for his actions on the bench, serving on numerous judicial committees and making a reputation on being fair and impartial.
Judge Fleming explained the process for this special election, saying it works a little differently from other special elections.
Normally, the Courts of Appeals and circuit judges are on the same election cycle, meaning candidates must choose which position they would want to run for. If Judge Fleming were to be elected to the Court of Appeals, another special election would then need to be held to fill the seat he would leave vacant in Family Court Division 3.
The 1st Appellate District serves all of western Kentucky, including Fulton, Hickman, Carlisle, Ballard, McCracken, Graves, Marshall, Calloway, Livingston, Lyon, Trigg, Crittenden, Caldwell, Christian, Union, Webster, Hopkins, Henderson, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd, Logan and Daviess Counties.
