Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision that happened on the Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County Wednesday afternoon.
According to a news release, it happened around 1:40 p.m. when Trooper Kirby Broadbent, who was patrolling near the 42-mile marker of the Parkway, observed a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Francesca Applewhite of Clarksville traveling around 85 miles per hour. As he approached to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle crossed the median for an unknown reason and began heading westbound in the eastbound lane.
That’s when it collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Amanda Holman of Belton, and the collision caused that vehicle to hit a semi-truck that was also traveling eastbound.
Holman was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Applewhite was flown by helicopter to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
