Homelessness in Hopkinsville and how to address it has been a main topic of discussion since Mayor J.R. Knight took office in January, and he says it remains a top priority for him.
Speaking with WHOP News recently, Mayor Knight says homelessness has become a real issue in the city, and he wants to find a way to get the people struggling with it the help they need. That’s easier said than done—first, they need to try and figure out the root cause of the problem, and he intends to host a meeting between numerous agencies to have honest discussions about it and start developing a plan.
He says they’ll need to determine what all can be done to help someone who wants it and how best to enact that help.
Citizens may also have seen a lot of rezoning being approved at Hopkinsville City Council recently, and Mayor Knight says you’ll see even more in the future, as they work to make sure all areas in the city are property zoned.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department will be taking over for Code Enforcement, and out of the hands of Community Development Services, who are working on the massive rezoning efforts.
