Election Day gets underway, polls open until 6 p.m.

Election Day is underway in Kentucky, and the polls opened locally at 6 a.m. as people made their way to cast their votes.

Polls opened bright and early and things got off to a smooth start in Christian County, with County Clerk Melinda Humphries saying that people are moving through lines quickly and there’s been no issues that she’s aware of.

On the ballot are all the state constitutional offices, including Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Auditor, Attorney General and Agriculture Commissioner, and at the top of list is who will be the next Governor of Kentucky.  There are also a couple of local elections on the ballot—Commonwealth Attorney and Christian County School Board in District 4, both of which are special elections to determine who will fill unexpired terms in those seats.

Humphries says due to those write-ins in both the local elections and three write-in candidates on the state level, it does mean results will likely come in a little slower.

She says they still intend to have those results posted sometime tonight, and you can keep up with those results on their website and the Christian County Clerk’s Office Facebook page.

If you haven’t voted yet, there are 13 voting centers in Christian County where you can vote, no matter where you live, and those are the Bruce Convention Center, the Christian County Courthouse, Senior Citizens Center, Oak Grove Community Center, Indian Hills Elementary School, New Barren Springs Church, New Palestine Baptist Church, Sinking Fork Baptist Church, Pembroke Baptist Church, Crofton City Hall, South Christian Elementary, Walnut Street Center and Hopkinsville Middle School.

Trigg County has seven voting centers—Cerulean Baptist Church, East Golden Pond Fire Department, Emergency Operations Center, South Road Fire Department, Trigg County Recreation Complex, Trigg-Lyon Fire Department and The Way.

In Todd County, residents can cast their votes at North Todd Elementary, Todd County Courthouse, Todd County Middle School, Sharon Grove Fire Department, Clifty Fire Department, Todd County High School, Trenton Fire Department, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Guthrie Fire Department, Allegre Volunteer Fire Department and Helen’s.
