Dixon retires after years of helping community fight addiction

The Community Counseling Center and the Substance Abuse Program at the Christian County Jail are bidding farewell and happy retirement to Howard Dixon, after over 30 years dedicated to helping people battle addiction.

The counseling center—which is an outpatient substance abuse program that offers treatment to those dealing with issues caused by addiction—has been open since 2013 and both Dixon and Janice Dixon have been serving the community there ever since. But on top of that, Dixon has also been running the Substance Abuse Program, or SAP, at the Christian County Jail for roughly the last 20 years.

That program is now one of the largest treatment providers in the state.

A retirement reception was held Friday afternoon wish the Dixons well in their retirement and whatever comes next for them. The Community Counseling Center will be in the hands of Mickey and Jane Lewis out of Franklin, and Jennifer Daniel will take over in Dixon’s position in SAP, effective December 1.

In a post on social media, officials with the counseling center say the Dixons belief in recovery, compassion for others, and obedience of following God’s calling of them has touched the community in numerous ways.
