Parks and Recreation highlight upcoming November events

As November swiftly approaches, Hopkinsville Parks and recreation is inviting the community to events such as their Veteran’s Day Parade and their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.

Toby Hudson and Rachel Sanders with Parks and Recreation appeared on WHOP to share what events they have in store for the community. On November 11 Parks and Recreation are partnering with the Christian County Military Affairs Committee to recognize those who have served in the military.

The parade will start at the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building and end at the Christian County Justice Center. Hudson says the parade serves to honor those retired and currently serving as well as the military families that make up the community.

Once the parade reaches the Justice Center, Hudson says there will be a brief ceremony and booths displaying historical military memorabilia. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building and there will be awards given for school spirit and student participation.

Following the parade on Thanksgiving morning, Parks and Recreation will be hosting their 22nd annual Turkey Trot at the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail. Hudson says the event started with around 10 or 15 runners and has immensely grown since then now attracting over 1,000 runners.

The trot is open to runners, joggers, walkers, bike rides, skaters and dogs as long as they are leashed. Sanders and Hudson share that those interested can register by November 9 and it is free to register, but for a souvenir shirt registration costs $25.

Proceeds from t-shirt purchases will go toward the Greenway Rail Trail.

The 5k trot starts at 8 a.m. and for registration and more information about upcoming Parks and Recreation events go to hoptownrec.com.
