HPD Chief rescues victim from house fire on East Fourth Street

The Hopkinsville Fire Department is investigating a house fire on East Fourth Street Monday morning after Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby pulled a person from the burning home.

HFD Lt. Payton Rogers tells WHOP News that the fire occurred at a residence in the 800 block of East Fourth Street and firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 8:15 a.m. There was heavy smoke inside the home and fire inside of a hallway when crews arrived. 

Prior to their arrival, HPD Chief Newby was able to rescue a victim through a bedroom window. The victim was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for evaluation of smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the blaze is under investigation—no injuries to firefighters were reported.
