Newborn hearing screener set to honor late medical staff member

Jennie Stuart Health’s Newborn Hearing Screener was dedicated in memory of Dr. Ron Howard who was a member of the Jennie Stuart medical staff for 40 years on Friday.

The hearing screener is a new addition to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that allows doctors to measure how well a baby’s hearing nerve and brain responds to sound.

Jennie Stuart Health Foundation Executive Director Tracey Clark says the dedication is a way for the community to pay tribute to Howard’s work according to a news release from the foundation. Along with Clark, Jennie Stuart Health Board of Trustees Chair, Leslie Carroll says during Howard’s career he provided care to an innumerable number of babies and is proud to have an essential piece of equipment named in his honor.

Along with members of the hospital and the foundation, Howard’s son, Tim Howard and wife Betty were in attendance for the dedication ceremony and expressed their appreciation of Howard’s memorialization.

Howard’s dedication plaque is permanently displayed at the NICU viewing area.
