County, Circuit Court Clerks highlight their roles at Kiwanis Club meeting

Both serving as stewards of public records, Christian County Circuit Court Clerk, Paige Parker and County Clerk, Melinda Humphries shared what roles they play in the community at Thursday’s Kiwanis Club meeting.

Thursday’s meeting served to inform Kiwanians about the different ways Parker and Humphries serve the community and what public records they preside over.

Parker started working for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in 1995 as a Deputy Clerk and is now serving a six-year term as Circuit Clerk. In her position Parker says she handles court records, manages jury selections and assist the circuit judges during proceedings.

Although Parker’s office manages jury selections, Parker reminded her fellow Kiwanians that selections are made randomly and even she herself has received a jury summons letter before.

While, Parker handles court records, Humphries handles vehicle registration records and much more. Humphries started working in her office in 2001 and is now serving a four-year term as County Clerk, and although the pair work in different sectors, Humphries says both her and Parker are custodians of public records.

Along with focusing on vehicle registrations, Humpries’ office handles deeds and land records, mortgages, marriage licenses, notarizing documents, passports and what Humphries says they are most known for, overseeing elections.

Humphries’ office is located at the Christian County Courthouse at 511 Main Street and Parker’s office is located at the Christian County Justice Center at 100 Justice Way.
