Madisonville police have charged a man with first-degree strangulation and assault following investigation into a disturbance Friday.
According to the police report, officers responded to a residence on Winding Creek Drive for reports of a disturbance around 8 p.m. and learned that a suspect, Gregory Atkins, and fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers located him at Real Life Church and escorted him back to the residence.
Atkins reportedly told officers he had been in an altercation with his ex-girlfriend—the victim told officers Atkins had grabbed her around the throat during the altercation. The victim reportedly had visible red marks on both sides of her neck.
During the investigation, a search of Atkins’ belongings at the residence allegedly revealed drug paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine.
Atkins was arrested and charged with first-degree strangulation, fourth-degree assault, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
