If you’re out and about Saturday morning, keep an eye out for runners and walkers taking part in the Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5K, as they’ll be making their way down several local streets.
According to a news release, the race has over 300 runners registered to take part in the event Saturday morning, with the half-marathon kicking off at 8 a.m. and the 5K getting underway at 8:20 a.m. The event is expected to wrap up around noon.
Both races will begin on Main Street in front of the Hopkinsville Municipal Center then head south—streets that will be impacted include Main Street, Cox Mill Road, Mable Avenue and South Sunset Circle, Gary Lane and Lafayette Road. Drivers can also expect runners on Alumni Avenue, Sterling Drive, Faulkner Drive, Phelps Avenue, Cherry Street, 15th Street and Bethel Street.
The runners have been instructed to run on the right-hand side of the roads and will be accompanied by law enforcement in lead and trail vehicles. A rolling barricade will be performed by the Hopkinsville Police Department and the Christian County Sherriff’s Office. Traffic control officers and other volunteers will be manning intersections to stop traffic as runners cross the intersections.
