Hopkinsville High Sophomore Lauren Hayes wins Player of the Week

This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Lauren Mayes.

Lauren is a sophomore at Hopkinsville High School and is a member of the cross country team.

Mayes has been a solid contributor to her team all season but most recently placed 3rd in the Kings and Queens of the West Invitational on October 14.

With just a few years of experience now in cross country, Mayes explained how running has been something that she’s enjoyed since early childhood.

As cross country is known to be a sport that’s based on improvement over time, Mayes talked about the work that she puts in to try and get better week to week.

Roger Volk, Mayes’s head coach. said that Lauren is someone who loves to run and enjoys a good race.

As far as her improvement he went on to say, “She learned to understand rare tactics and that there is also the course and weather to consider, not just the other competitors or herself.”

During Lauren’s interview with WHOP, “food” was a topic that came up and here’s what she had to say about her pre and post-game meals.

As far as moving on in the season, Lauren and the rest of her team have a big weekend ahead as they will be traveling to Owensboro to run in the first Regional cross-country championships
to try to earn their way to the state meet in Lexington.
