Proceedings are continuing in the case against Deshayla Day, the former employee of First Baptist Church daycare accused of child abuse.
Appearing in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning, special prosecutor Graves County Commonwealth’s Attorney Richie Kemp informed the court that he intends to speak with the victim’s family in the case soon, and hopes to have it either resolved or ready to set a trial date by the next time they appear in court.
Judge John Atkins set another pretrial hearing for December 6. Day is charged with first-degree criminal abuse—she is alleged to have lifted a 16-month-old child by one arm from a classroom to the hallway and ‘firmly grabbed the child by the face’ during an incident earlier last year that was captured on video surveillance.
The child was later taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to be treated and evaluated for visible injuries, according to testimony from a Hopkinsville Police Department detective at a prior hearing.
