Bond modification denied for shooting suspect

A motion for bond modification was denied Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court for Steven Black, the man charged in connection with a shooting in August that injured a man.

Black is accused of shooting Samual Sivils in the foot as the result of an altercation because the two—defense attorney Eric Bearden says that the victim has never identified his client as the shooter, and he knows Black would abide by any release conditions that were imposed, including an ankle monitor.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen expressed concern at the number of assault related charges Black has had within the last two years, and Judge John Atkins agreed, saying he finds the frequency of new charges troubling, so he denied the request.

Black will reappear in court on November 15. He is facing charges of first-degree assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
