Members of the Hopkinsville Fire Department were recognized for position promotions and retirements at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville City Council meeting.
Department Fire Chief Steve Futrell started the meeting by highlighting firefighters, Cliff Hoy and Jordan Young who were both promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Before members of their family presented them with their pins, Futrell spoke about their experience with the department.
Hoy has worked with the department for around six years as a critical care medic and a certified flight medic. Young has worked with the department for around five years and is an advanced EMT and serves on the department’s hazmat team.
Next, Futrell recognized firefighters Nick Marlowe and Marc London who were promoted to the rank of captain.
Marlowe has worked with the department for around 11 years and has served as a lieutenant since 2019. London has worked with the department for around 15 years, has served as a lieutenant since 2018.
Futrell, then recognized retiring firefighters Keith Hampton and Tommy McGraw, both who have serves with the department since 2003. Futrell says retirements are hard for him because those with the department are family.
Further regarding the department, as the council moved through their agenda, they approved a municipal order for an expenditure of nearly $830,000 for a new fire engine, for the department. Futrell shared that the department recently had two engines go down at the same time and were not able to get parts for them.
Futrell says this new fire engine will serve station five once it is open and will also allow for firefighters to address maintenance on the other trucks, have a truck to train with and a more reliable truck in their reserves.
The Council also approved an ordinance to accept the 2023 Hopkinsville city ward map. From the 2020 map, noticeable changes have occurred between wards eight, nine and 10 with ward nine gaining land that once belonged to wards eight and 10.
