Parks and Recreation prepares to host annual marathon, 5k

The fifth annual Hoptown Half Marathon and 5k is set to take over Hopkinsville on October 21 and Rachel Sanders, the Marketing and Events Coordinator for Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation shared what the big day will entail and how people can get involved and register.

Sanders spoke about registration which will remain open through 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race. Along with registration, Sanders shared that there are still open volunteer slots for their water station and cheering sections.

The half marathon is 13 miles long and the 5k is around 3 miles long. Both start and end in downtown Hopkinsville.

Recognizing Hopkinsville as the Batter Capital of the World, the race’s theme will surround waffles with waffle iron themed medals, waffle marathon shirts and a pancake and waffle breakfast to conclude the race.
