CCPS selected for Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence grant

The Christian County Public School System is one of 20 districts in the state that has received a grant from the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

Last year, the Prichard Committee was awarded $47 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and they will put roughly $30 million of it back into Kentucky school districts through the Kentucky Community Schools initiative. One of those districts is Christian County, and Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re honored to have been chosen, and it is focused on creating community oriented schools that prioritize health, safety and academic achievement.

According to the Prichard Committee, the community schools model has been proven to boost student outcomes, increase college enrollments, and contribute to the overall well-being of students, especially in high-poverty schools. Bentzel says CCPS is set to receive $1.5 million in grant funding from the program.

In western Kentucky, Hopkins County Schools also made the list, along with McCracken County and Paducah Independent Schools.
