Annual Ham Festival returns to downtown Cadiz

With the 47th annual Trigg County Ham Festival Kicking off on Thursday, Cadiz On Main Director, Brianna Hyde shared what’s new, what’s old and what event goers can expect from this longtime county tradition.

Hyde says the festivities will kick off in downtown Cadiz Thursday evening with carnival rides set to open at 4p.m. Friday and Saturday are filled to the brim with activities, over 200 vendors, live music, kid’s activities and more from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The festival’s opening ceremony will commence on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cadiz Renaissance Stage with food and merchandise vendors, carnival rides, live music acts, a petting zoo and much more to open for the day.

When it comes to food, Hyde says the festival will have a wide range of food options with around 30 vendors and three separate food courts.

The food attractions continue on Saturday with Trigg County’s Helping Hands nonprofit cooking and serving of Kentucky’s largest ham biscuit from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Hyde says the biscuit is set to measure around 10 feet across.

The proceeds made from ham biscuit purchases will go toward Helping Hands which provides food and clothing for those in need at affordable prices.

Hyde says for each year of the festival they choose one local nonprofit to support and with the return of the festival’s parade on Sunday, Hyde says it’s an opportunity for attendees to donate canned goods to benefit Helping Hands.

Along with serving Kentucky’s largest ham biscuit, on Saturday Hyde says they will be hosting their inaugural mullet and beard competition and says anything you can think of will be right on Main Street at this year’s festival.
