Members from the Christian County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Board shared their mission at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting and their need for community support.
CASA is a youth nonprofit and has advocates that are judge appointed to offer support to a child that is involved in the court system until they find a permanent home. Advocates are with the child through the court process and support their needs.
Pam Smith, CASA Board Secretary, shared their need for community support, saying the nonprofit can’t be a success without it, so they are planning on launching a campaign to spread their mission across the county and garner more support.
Their upcoming campaign comes at a time where CASA has received a decrease in state funding. As a result of the decrease Smith says CASA will soon be launching a fundraiser where they hope to raise around $50,000.
Smith says the funds will support the needs of CASA children as well as help provide them with extracurricular opportunities that engage with their interests.
Along with funding needs, Smith highlighted their need for board members and volunteers. Volunteers are responsible with engaging with CASA children, staying in touch with the child’s family members and teachers, looking out for the child’s best interests and much more.
Smith says support for CASA includes much more than just financial support, but sincere community involvement with their nonprofit.
