Superintendent talks salary schedule, plans for pay raises

Fall break is underway for Christian County Public Schools, and the superintendent says they’re taking the time to plan for the future, including for pay raises and additional bus drivers.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re working to address a shortage of substitute bus drivers in the district—as are most districts across the nation—as they would like to have plenty of substitute drivers on hand.

One of their hopes is to increase bus driver wages, and along with that, Superintendent Bentzel says they’re hopeful the state legislature considering approving funding to increase pay across the board for both certified and classified staff. Even if they don’t, he says locally they will do what they can to increase wages.

He says they also hope to unfreeze the step increases, which were frozen in 2018, along with once again giving a $1,000 bonus.

Bentzel says when students come back from fall break, they’ll further focus their efforts on student achievement, but they’ll also begin reaching out for more parent involvement, hosting parent-teacher conferences, sending out report cards and hosting community events like fall festivals.
