Christian Co. Judge-Executive talks feasibility of county animal control

Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says while a lot of things are at the top of the priority list, such as housing and infrastructure, his office is looking into some type of animal control in the county.

Right now, the City of Hopkinsville and the City of Oak Grove both have animal control officers, but the cities of Crofton, Pembroke and Lafeyette do not, and Judge Gilliam says they’ve expressed some interest in having some form of animal control in their communities. He says they’re going to have a conversation about what that would look like and if it would be feasible.

He says one possibility is to contract with Oak Grove and Hopkinsville in some way to help get animal control services in those areas.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department does work now with animals, especially those in neglect or abuse cases, but the county does not currently have the resources to manage stray animals.
