Owners host ribbon cutting for renovated local movie theater

A ribbon cutting signified the reopening of newly renovated dine-in movie theater The Showbox formally known as WK Cinemas on Friday.

Owners Shane and Aubrie Pollock bought the building in October 2022 and closed the theater in January to focus on renovations. Shane Pollock says he’s happy to finally open the doors and start making some money.

The Showbox has five auditoriums all offering different experiences. Pollock says the Stardust auditorium has privacy pods, recliners, pivoting tables and dining options.

Along with the Stardust auditorium there is the Prague auditorium set for horror movies, the Atlantis auditorium set for romantic comedies, the Metro auditorium which Pollock says has immersive surround sound set for action movies and the Lancaster auditorium which will be geared more toward children movies.

Pollock also plans to host other events at The Showbox during slower times in the movies industry such as comedy shows, gaming tournaments and more.

Pollock says he’s both excited and anxious about opening to the community, because they are still working out the kinks before the movie season ramps up.

The Showbox is at 4000 Fort Campbell Blvd in Hopkinsville and information about their showings and events can be found at theshowbox.net.
