With the strike ongoing between the United Auto Workers union and the big three car companies—Ford Motor, General Motors and Stellantis—Hopkinsville could start to feel the impact.
Speaking with WHOP News recently, Southwestern Kentucky Economic Development Council Executive Director Carter Hendricks says that the longer the strike goes on, the longer communities with vehicle related industries will began to feel the effects, and that includes locally.
Hendricks says they’re staying in close contact with their local industries in the meantime and staying hopeful that an agreement can reached soon.
The UAW’s demands include a 36% pay increase across a four-year contract, annual cost-of-living adjustments, pension benefits for all employees, greater job security, restrictions on the use of temporary workers and a four-day work week.
