An Elkton fire fighter was taken to a local hospital early Thursday morning after he was shocked by lightning while battling a structure fire.
According to Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith, crews were on scene of a structure fire on Sharon Grove Road that had been caused when the building was struck by lightning around 6 a.m. While fire fighters were on scene, there was another nearby lightning strike at approximately 7 a.m.
An Elkton fire fighter, identified as Perry Knight, was connecting a hose to a truck about 300 feet away, was shocked and thrown to the ground. He was treated on scene and transported to the Logan Memorial Emergency Room by Todd County EMS. He has since been able to return home.
Along with the Elkton Fire Department, Sharon Grove and Allegre Fire Department responded to the scene of the fire.
